I'm an organic gardener who moved with my family from northern California to Hawaii in
2006. I wanted to garden all year long and had grown impatient with long and dreary winters.
Hawaii suffers not-at-all from this malady. I was eager to grow some of my favorite tropical
fruits which were extremely pricey in the grocery stores in California. $3 for a
papaya!?! Get real! Never heard of rollinia, soursop, rambutan, mangosteen or
durian? Get on board! And there's so much more to talk about. More later....
I studied to become a real estate salesperson because I wanted to know what "they" knew.
I was working with a Special Needs child at a local school and would have kept my job forever,
but it came to an end in 2012.
As for my mission - I'm eager to help others find the property of their dreams and grow healthy
food for their families. Simple as that.
You may note that in the search buttons for land and homes, I've sorted out
the properties that are between 1 and 4 acres. That's a really nice
size for having the room to grow fruit and nut trees plus have space for a
garden. There are plenty of properties outside these parameters available, but
these searches will give you a running start.
For properties larger than 4 acres, click the last 2 buttons.
My little 2 acre farm is up and running and producing eggs, milk, garden
produce and fruit galore. The animals are reproducing (like crazy) as well. The land was raw
when we settled here, completely filled with elephant grass (or banna grass)
which still remains in places and is great fodder for the goats as well as being an excellent soil builder.
As I'm a no-mow proponent, my orchard has a fantastic, low-growing groundcover (see my Groundcover blog). There's a poem in there somewhere... or Haiku....
